Former Breitbart spokesman Kurt Bardella said Monday that President Trump should be worried about backlash from recently departed chief strategist Stephen Bannon and Breitbart News, telling CNN that “they’ll help impeach Trump if he goes the other way” on the populist issues that helped get him elected.

“You know Bannon. Should the president be worried?” asked “New Day” co-anchor Chris Cuomo.

“Yes, I think he should,” said Bardella. “And I think if you look at the pages of Breitbart right now, there are stories about Ivanka, Jared, H.R. McMaster. He’s going under attack. Which is why it’s all the more perplexing that the president put out the tweet over the weekend endorsing Steve essentially, saying he’s going to be a great voice – a great new voice at Breitbart.

“And this is a platform that’s already attacking members of his staff, his national security team, his family,” Bardella continued. “It just goes to show that Breitbart is going to go fully aggressive at the agenda that they have advocated for.

“Trump was just a vehicle for them to try to prop up that agenda. But they will not hesitate if Trump deviates at all from any of the rhetoric that he said during the campaign,” he concluded. “They’re going to go full tilt. They’ll help impeach Trump if he goes the other way.”

Bardella abruptly parted ways with Breitbart in March 2016 after then-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields accused Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski of getting physical with her as she attempted to ask Trump a question following a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Breitbart, now run again by Bannon, appears to have already set its sights on McMaster, with the populist news outlet slamming the president’s national security adviser for being soft on terrorism in an article published Sunday.

Bannon’s departure as the president’s chief strategist on Friday was followed almost immediately with the announcement that the former Goldman Sachs investment banker and Hollywood executive producer would be returning to Breitbart as its chairman.
